Making a Difference, Beyond the Fireline

At the Santa Barbara South Coast Firefighter Foundation, our mission goes far beyond emergency response. We believe in prevention, education, and showing up for our community in meaningful ways. Through outreach, training, and creative engagement, we’re proud to support and strengthen the neighborhoods we serve.

Here’s a look at how we stay active in our neighborhoods year-round

  • California Avocado Festival

Every year, we proudly join this Carpinteria tradition to celebrate local culture, raise awareness for our mission, and bring the community together. It’s a weekend of fun, fundraising, and sharing fire safety tips with families of all ages.

  • Hands-Only CPR Training

We offer free, life-saving CPR training throughout the region—including special sessions for Junior Lifeguards. These quick, accessible classes empower everyday citizens with the knowledge to save lives in an emergency.

  • Junior Lifeguard Scholarships

We believe every child should have access to ocean safety education. That’s why we provide scholarships for the Carpinteria Junior Lifeguard Program, helping local kids participate in this life-shaping experience, regardless of financial background. It’s a key part of our commitment to prevention, youth development, and coastal readiness.

  • Santa Parade & Toy Drive

Each holiday season, we host a toy drive to collect new gifts for local families. The donations are distributed to Carpinteria Middle School families in need, helping to brighten the holidays for children in our own backyard. The toy drive culminates in our participation in the annual Santa Parade, where we deliver holiday cheer in classic firefighter fashion.

  • Remembering Our Heroes

We honor the legacy of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service. A dedicated memorial plaque commemorates six firefighters impacted by the Romero Fire of 1971. Their courage inspires our continued efforts.

  • Surf Rescue Awareness

With our “Support Your Local Surf Rescue” campaign, we raise awareness for lifeguard collaboration and ocean safety. From the Cove to the Cliffs, we’re committed to keeping our coast protected and informed.

  • Stickers for Kids

To connect with kids and encourage safe, helpful behaviors, we’ve created a playful line of community stickers. Favorites include the “Do the Stingray Shuffle” ocean safety sticker and the “Helpful Hand” octopus sticker, reminding young community members to be kind, helpful, and aware. Look for these at our events—they’re a hit with children and families alike!
